WhatsApp is launching a new Group Chat feature called Context Cards. This feature is designed to give users more information about group chat invitations, helping them distinguish between spam and legitimate invites. Will Cathcart, Head of WhatsApp at Meta, announced this update through his official WhatsApp Channel.
Using WhatsApp Group Chat Context Cards
When you receive an invite to join a new WhatsApp group, a context card will appear with pertinent details. This card will inform you who added you, indicating whether they are a contact or a non-contact. Additionally, it will display who created the group and the creation date. A group description will be available to help you decide if you want to join or leave the group.
The context card also includes a quick link to WhatsApp Safety Tools and an exit group button. If you find a group invite suspicious, you can report the group as you normally would.
Currently, the WhatsApp Group Chat Context Cards feature is being rolled out and is expected to be available to all users in the coming weeks.
In related news, Meta AI support has recently been released for WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook users in India. This free-to-use chatbot, based on Meta’s Llama 3 model, can assist with a variety of tasks such as answering questions, planning trips, checking recipes, solving puzzles, summarizing long posts, and writing essays or emails.
The team is working to enhance Meta AI for WhatsApp users by testing features like photo editing and image description. The release date for these features is yet to be announced.
